San Sebastian ( Donostia ) is blessed with some of the finest dining establishments in Spain, and incredibly there are so many to choose from. The following is a guide that will help you in choosing the right one for on your next trip to the area and hopefully make your dining experience in this beautiful region of Spain an unforgetable one.

This restaurant is owned and run by one of the founding fathers of the Nuevo Cocina Vasca Juan Mari Arzak. He is aided expertly by his daughter Elena, a master chef in her own right. There is a special menu of the day which includes appetizers, two meats, a cheese plate and two desserts. The decor is traditional with the dining area being spacious but not large and retains intimacy. The clientele is mainly older patrons, most of whom are locals. The chef makes his rounds and chats with the regulars. This is one of Spain's first three star Michelin restaurants and reservations are a must.

Akelare, which is situated on the Igeldo, offers some beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and over the Cantabrian sea. It is one the most prestigious restaurants in the Basque Region which includes an excellent wine bodega and their very own vegetable and herb garden. The seats near the windows are highly sought after although you can also find intimacy in one of the three dining rooms inside. The meals are meticulously prepared, and the menu changes quite frequently. A popular dining option is the "Menú de Degustación." a special menu consisting of the chefs latest dishes prepared with the freshest in season produce....Reservations and business




Restaurant ANASTASIO BERRI

This restaurant is a hidden gem and easy to miss so make sure you find it as it is well worth the effort. This is a fine family run establishment serving excellent local dishes within a well thought out menu. The restaurant has recently been refurbished with blue flecked walls, high ceilings and decorative chairs and although the room feels upmarket it is actually a quite relaxed.

This traditional restaurant has recently been refurbished and a general overall facelift, and the result is a pleasant, modernized restaurant that doesn't forget its Basque roots or its longstanding reputation for excellence. try the chef's selection for a taste of what's freshest that day or just go with cod a la vasca, which is always delicate and full of flavour. They also offer a Menu de Gustacion made up of two sumpcious dishes. Excellent quality desserts are also on offer.




Restaurant CASA NICOLASA

This is one of the most emblematic establishments in Donostia. The Gran Chef Jose Juan Castillo offers a large amount of high quality dishes whilst every need of his clientele is superbly attended to in the very agreeable atmosphere of the Restaurant. it is an experience that shouldn't be missed. Amongst the many excellent dishes on offer I would highly recommend the puréed cod and mixed vegetables or the monkfish steaks on a bed of creamed asparagus and saffron. The restaurant has parking available for its clients.

This Restaurant, as the name would suggest, is situated in the heart of the old part of San Sebastian, next to the Marina and fishing port and only a few minutes from the famous La Concha Beach. Here you can enjoy the very best and freshest fish, seafood and vegetables that the Basque region has to offer and is highly recommended both for its fine cooking and pleasant ambiance. There is also an interesting room based on two floors with an interesting collection of watches and antique irons. Well worth a visit.

This historic Restaurant is situated in beautiful Villa in Ondarreta and has been serving typical and high quality regional dishes for over 40 years. There food is very reasonably priced for this type of quality establishment and should be on any ones list if your thinking of trying out a variety of the local cuisine. The main dining area is classic and stylish with the other having garden feeling. There is parking available for its clients.

It is undoubtedly one of the most consolidated gastronomic establishments in San Sebastian , efficiently managed by a family that over the years has earned a loyal and fixed client base. You will find all kinds of typical local dishes and super fresh fish and seafood.





Hostels in San Sebastian

There really is a great choice of fine homely Hostels in San Sebastian . Arguably one of the best must be the Hospedaje Donosti -B&B which has received the HostelBookers Awards for Excellence 2010 - Ranked top 3 for 'Cleanliness' in Europe, located in San Marciel 33 this hostel has a great atmospher and is near the beaches.
