SAN PEDRO DE ALCANTARA
San Pedro de Alcantara is situated in a privileged position on the Costa del Sol, only 10 minutes away for its chic neighbour Marbella and within an easy drive of the natural beauty and lush vegetation of the Sierra de Ronda mountain range .
San Pedro de Alcantara or simply San Pedro as it is affectionately referred to locally was once and an ancient farming community famous for its sugar cane production . today has a refreshingly unspoilt appeal .
A short walk brings you to the town's superb beaches . It's great for a pleasant days sunbathing and swimming in the warm Mediterranean. There's also fishing, diving, surfing and sailing on offer which will keep all family members of ages busy and happy. Backing the beach is a stylish palm-flanked avenue with a number of superb restaurants. It's the perfect place for a romantic evening stroll as you build up an appetite.
There is a wide choice of shopping on offer, from bargain hunting in the local market held each Thursday to the large shopping mauls and chic boutiques that can be found in and around Marbella , not forgetting the exclusive Puerto Banus yachting marina. After some leisurely retail therapy relax and discover the local culinary delights on offer in one of the many local tapas bars, restaurants and family run cafeterias in the area.
Holidays in San Pedro de Alcantara are a refreshing break from the crowds of larger resorts. But you're close enough to have the best of both worlds here.
The annual feria ( summer fair ) in San Pedro is held in the second week in October.
History buffs will enjoy the Paleochristian Balisilica Church by the sea and the third century Roman Baths, Las Bovedas. Check at the local tourist office for timings.
The Paleochristian Balisilica Church and Necropolis is located in the woods next to the Bora Bora Beach Club that is on the sea front directly in front of the town. A little further west along the beach to Guadalmina is located the restored remains of the Roman Baths. If driving leave San Pedro westward towards Estepona. Stop at the tourist office in the Arch for the keys. After passing under the Marbella Arch, turn right and double back under the road tunnel
