The only links course in Spain meeting competition standards, Alcaidesa is now easily accessible from all locations along the coast with the advent of the new motorway. The course presents views of the Rock of Gibraltar and on a sunny day one can view the Atlas Mountains in North Africa.
A face lift was given to the course in 1999 resulting in the further development of Spain's link course. Fairways have been improved and widened and greens have been leveled off. It runs along the coast line at Cadiz with some hilly holes and the Mediterranean Sea breeze increases the challenge during the winter.
Although a links course, Alcaidesa can be enjoyed by all golf players since the type of soil, layout and breadth of the landing areas are well suited to players of all ages and abilities.
Alcaidesa golf incoorporated a new course and now offers 36 magnificent holes spread out all over the resort. Apart from the classic Links-type course, which has been Alcaidesa's flagship since 1992, since 2007 there is a new Heathland one, which recovers the gently undulating landscape and typical groves of the area. Thanks to Dave Thomas, the famous golf course designer, this golf course is now the best setting for any type of golf championship. The new heathland course offers wide fairways and outstanding views of the Mediterranean sea and the local mountain ranges, including the sierra Nevada. Some of the holes
meander along the river valley incorporating various water features and hazards.
Alcaidesa is privilegedly situated where the Costa del Sol starts, just 15 minutes from Gibraltar and its airport, beside Sotogrande and its golf courses, surrounded by areas of outstanding natural beauty and a low density of buildings. Moreover, it is easily accessible by main road and motorway, being less than one hour from Malaga airport
