6th January
NATIONAL:
One of the most eagerly awaited ( by every child in Spain ) national holiday in Spain falls on the 6th January and is the FIESTA DE LOS REYES ( Day of the three kings ) . It is a national holiday celebrated across the land. Traditionally it is when the long awaited Christmas presents are handed around to family and friends. The real fun comes in the form of colorful processions which take place in the early evening. The central streets of each town fill up with decorated floats which meander slowly along the chosen routes and where thousands of kilos of streets are thrown into the beckoning crowds, a mad dash is and by young ( and old ! ) to pick up the sweets, collecting as many as they can.
The main float carries the three kings bearing even more gifts which are thrown out at the children lining the avenidas.
