Andalucía: : Andalucía day is very special to everyone who lives in this beautiful region of Spain, not lastly me , as this has been my home for the last 30 years. Los Andaluces enjoy life to the full , this is the place where people work to live and not live to work. Andalucia consists of 8 provinces, Huelva, Sevilla, Cadiz, Cordoba, Malaga, Jaén, Granada and Almeria. There are around 8.5 Million inhabitants in the region and boasts Seville as the capital. Andalucia was originally a muslim name introduced to the Spanish language in the 13th Century when they ruled the region for almost 700 years. Andalucía is famous for its enviable climate, flamenco, beaches, Moorish influenced architecture, vibrant cuisine, olive , orange and lemon groves.

Carnivals The Spanish carnival season offers some of the best celebrations anywhere in the world easily rivalling those of Rio de Janeiro , Brazil. The best are to be found in Tenerife and Cadiz where the street parties are world renowned. Colourful precessions and extravagant costumes abound in many cities and usually commence on Ash Wednesday .

The Cadiz carnival is arguably one of the most extravagant parties around lasting some 10 days. If you are planning to visit the Cadiz Carnivals be careful when planning your trip as the local accommodation is usually booked solid well in advance. A huge papier-mache sardine is mourned ( noisily ) as it makes its way along the Cadiz streets to its final resting place !!. Booking.com provide an excellent selection of Hotels in Cadiz to choose from, but please book well in advance to avoid any disappointment.

Another interesting fiesta can be seen in Bocairante in the province of Valencia and celebrated the annual Moors versus Christians festivities in honor of Saint Blas the patron of the town. This is one of the oldest and most spectacular celebrations of its kind in Spain. You will be entertained by street bands, dancing, amazing parades during the six days the festivities go on, not forgetting the deafening sound of gunpowder as it is fired off day and night. One of the main highlights is the ENTRA, with over 3.000 participants and a remarkable parade of floats.
