Airport Information in Spain   Airport Information:

In terms of passenger traffic and flights Madrid's Barajas airport is the undisputed king of airports in Spain handling 49.662.512 passengers on 4329.381 flight operations in 2011.

It is a sprawling complex located in the Jaramar Valley some 12 kms from the outskirts of Madrid. In order to service the increasing traffic a new terminal was recently opened making 4 in total. (T1, T2, T3 or T4).

Arrivals: In order to offer a more efficient customer service , Madrid-Barajas airport has rearranged the distribution of airline companies among the different terminals. Your ticket indicates which terminal you should go to (T1, T2, T3 or T4). The monitors located at the car-park exit and near to the entrance doors indicate how to get to the different terminals. Make your way to the departure hall of the corresponding terminal.

If your flight comes in to T4, make your way to baggage reclaim 10 located on the first floor of the terminal.

If your flight comes in to T4S (satellite building) and has come from Spain or a Schengen country you should make your way to P-2 and take the Automatic Underground train to T4. This is a remote-controlled train that connects T4 with T4S. The journey takes just over 3 minutes. Once you are in T4, make your way to baggage reclaim 10 located on the ground floor of the terminal.

If your flight is disembarked via the T4S (satellite building) and has come from a non-Schengen country or third countries outside the EU, you should make your way to P2 and go through passport control and the hand luggage Customs point. Then go down to floor -2 and board the underground train. Once you are in T4, make your way to baggage reclaim 11 located on the ground floor of the terminal.

If your flight comes in to T4S (Satellite building) and is disembarked without direct access to the terminal by airbridge, and if it comes from a non-Schengen country or third countries outside the EU the bus will take you to P0 where you will go through passport control and the hand luggage Customs point. Then go down to floor -2 and board the underground train. Once you are in T4, make your way to baggage reclaim 11 located on the ground floor of the terminal.

Departures: The main bulk of departures now exit from T4 although you should check with your tour operator before arriving to make sure you are not left in another terminal which may cause delays in arriving for check in at the correct time.

On the doors that lead to the Departures lobby in T4 (second floor) there are a number of signs with the names of the airline companies. this allows you to choose the access door that is closest to the check-in desks of your airline.

Once you have gone through security, if your boarding gate is H, J or K national or Schengen destinations or Iberia flights to London and Dublin) you should make your way to the right and go downstairs to P1, where the boarding gates are situated. If your departure zone is R, S or U, you should go left and go down to floor 2 where you should take the underground train that will take you to T4S. This is a remote-controlled train that connects T4 with T4S. The journey takes just over 3 minutes.

Once you are in T4S, if your boarding zone is M (national or Schengen destinations) make your way to P0. If your boarding zone is R, S or U (non-Schengen destinations or countries outside the EU) you should go through the passport control located on P-1 and then make your way to P1.
