Airport Information:
The Girona airport was the 15th busiest in 2011, handling 3.007.649 passengers and 27.800 flight operations.
Arrivals: Passengers arrive, on both domestic and international flights, on the ground floor, where there is a baggage reclaim hall: Hall 1, for passengers arriving from EU and Schengen countries; and Hall 2, for passengers arriving from outside the EU and non-Schengen countries.
I have always found the airport comfortable and easy to navigate and a good alternative to using Barcelona airport which is still only a 50 minute drive away.
Departures: Check-in and ticket sales is carried out on the ground floor, whilst boarding for both domestic and international flights is conducted on the first floor of the passenger terminal. The passenger-only area, on the first floor, has a departure lounge where you can find several shops, restaurants and cafeterias. This area is accessed through the security checkpoint. Check in is on the ground floor where there are 33 check-in desks and 15 boarding gates. You can check the weight of your luggage free of charge from desks 1 to 4.
Ryan air is the main low cost carrier operating out of Girona and has reached a new operating deal with the Catalan Government. The deal means Ryaniar have been granted land at the airport where they could build a hanger and even a hotel in exchange the low cost carrier have promised to fly in over 3.000.0000 passengers, mostly to Girona and some to Reus
untill the agreement finalises in 2016.
Catering / Shopping: The passenger-only area, on the first floor, has a departure lounge where you can find several shops, restaurants and cafeterias.
Parking: Currently, Gerona-Costa Brava airport has approximately 3,600 covered parking spaces located in three car parking areas. P1 – P2 and one open air car carp. The airport's public car park, just 10 meters from the terminal and open 24-hours a day, has a management and surveillance service as well as an information service on available spaces to make parking easier.
Zone P2. This is a six-storey building located opposite the passenger terminal. It has 10 automatic payment machines and two cash desks for incidents.
The construction of a new open air car park with a capacity for over 2,000 vehicles is currently under way ( P4).
The payment machines accept Euro notes and coins and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Diners and American Express) up to a value of 65 Euros. Payments for higher amounts must be made at the cash desk.
