The airport is one of the most outstanding symbols of the renewal and vigour of the city of Bilbao.

Bilbao airport was the 14th busiest in 2011 in relation to passenger traffic with around 4.045.654. travelers and 54.342 flight operations. The airport is mostly used for internal flights to all other main cities in Spain including Coruna, Alicante, Barcelona, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Madrid, Malaga, Palma, Seville, Tenerife (North and South), Valencia and Vigo.

Arrivals: On arrival passengers access an open-plan baggage reclaim lounge on the ground floor of the passenger terminal building. There are seven baggaeg carousels The P1 general car park area can be reached vi this building through an underground passageway. This area is currently undergoing refurbishment to instal a glass enclosure and thus set up a new Arrivals lobby. Building work has made it necessary to close the direct communication (by lifts and escalators) between the Arrivals area and the car park. In order to minimise the inconvenience for passengers, four new lifts have been put into service ( two on the sides to facilitate passenger flow between Arrivals and Departures and with the long-stay parking, and another two that, through a new provisional structure, take passengers to the Departures area from the P1 car park tunnel ).

Departures: The departures are is situated on the top floor and is accessed via a five-laned 38 metre projection. There are currently 36 check-in counters arranged in the shape of a fan. After check-in you will pass through to a bright wide-open area where the service and shopping areas are to be found. Once through the security checkpoint you will be in the pre-boarding zone, a glass corridor measuring 300 metres long on the southern facade of the building, where it is possible to view the entire airfield. From this section of the airport departure area you can access either the mezzanine, which leads to the telescopic fingers or the lounges to the 12 boarding gates.


Catering / Shopping: There are currently 3 cafeterias, 1 restaurant and several good shops that will keep you busy and amused whilst waiting for your flight to depart.

Parking: Passengers can access the car park through the vehicle tunnels. New payment machines have been installed on the same floor so it is not necessary to go to level 0 of the car park. Due to the works being carried out the SHORT STAY car park is closed.

There are two other car parks open one for Long stays P2 and the general parking area P1. The general parking area has a capacity for 3.000 vehicles, this includes 300 set aside for the car hire companies. The charges for the P1 Parking zone are: From 0 to 30 minutes, €0.017987 per minute. From 31 to 60 minutes, €0.025181 per minute. From 61 minutes, €0.022258 per minute; daily maximum up to four days, €14.65.Daily maximum from the fifth day, €11.65.

The P2 ( long stay ) car park has a capacity for 664 vehicles, 15 of which are for the disabled and 13 for vehicles that are higher than normal ( these parking spaces have no roof). The charges are: From 0 to 30 minutes, 0.017987 per minute. From 31 to 60 minutes, 0.025181 per minute. From 61 minutes, 0.022258 per minute; daily maximum up to four days, €14.65. Daily maximum from the fifth day, 5.825 (this reduced price applies to the fifth and subsequent days only).
