Barcelona airport Prat de Llobregat is the second busiest airport in Spain and handled around 34.3 Million passengers in 2011 and over 303.000 flight operations.
The airport is used by International and national airlines bringing in
visitors holidaying in the city ,the Costa Brava close by and is he main entry point for regional and national visitors. The city of Barcelona is one of the
worlds top tourist destinations AND specially popular for weekend breaks.
The new and very impressive Terminal 1 went into service in June 2009 as was part of a major new infrastructure plan at the airport which included the new terminal, a control tower, new connecting roads and an expansion of the car parking area. This new area is separated from the other terminal and can be accessed by a shuttle service which runs every seven minutes.
Arrivals:
In T1, once pass the boarding gates, passengers pass to the baggage reclaim carousels. Passengers coming from a non Schengen country must go through passport control before entering the baggage reclaim hall. If they are coming from a Schengen country, on their route towards the exit, passengers will pass through the Sky Centre to get to the baggage reclaim hall. The baggage reclaim hall is used for all flights from both Schengen and non Schengen destinations. After collecting their luggage, passengers will leave the baggage reclaim area and will enter La Plaza, the waiting point for those accompanying them and the gateway between T1, the public car park, the intermodal lobby and the taxi, bus, shuttles and vehicle hire services.
The Barcelona-Madrid Air Corridor, which houses the Air Shuttle, has its own space in the north dock of TI. It has a baggage reclaim carousel, in addition to a taxi rank and direct access to the car park.
T2 has three baggage reclaim halls situated on the ground floor of each of its three areas: A, B and C. The T2 general lobby can be accessed from these areas.
Departures:
Barcelona airport has two large terminal buildings: T1 and T2. Barcelona Airport follows the criteria of terminal use by company, regardless of the destination or origin of the flight, so flights may depart from either of the two terminals. T2A is currently closed, all companies using T2 will check into T2B except Easy Jet which uses T2C.
The T1 check-in desks are situated in the hall on P3. The Barcelona-Madrid Air Shuttle has its own space in the north dock of T1. For its part, T2 is divided into three check-in areas: A, B and C.
The boarding pass should indicate the gate for boarding the aircraft. If not, it should indicate the boarding zone or module. T1 has five boarding zones, A, B, C, D and E. T2 has six boarding zones, M-0, M-1, M-2, M-3, M-4 y M-5, which can be accessed via the boulevard for the exclusive use of passengers reached after passing through the security checkpoints.
Catering / Shopping:
The shopping area is over 23.000 M2 and is open to all passengers in the new terminal and was designed by well known architect Ricardo Bofill and is home to over 80 shops and restaurants.As you would expect there are name brands to suit everyone and include can enjoy such well-known names as Adolfo Dominguez, Desigual, Adidas, Piquadro and Aita, and restaurants including El Gaig, Cantina Mariachi, Jamaica, Caffé di Roma, Lizarrán, Gambrinus, Pasta Fiore, Mussol, Moncho's, Semon and Quasi Queviures.
Parking:
Barcelona airport has more than 23,000 parking spaces, of which more than 12,000 are in the T1 car parks and 11,900 are in the T2 car parks. T1 has two car park buildings, which are connected to the terminal via a walkway. The open air car park with has 1,600 spaces and has direct access to the terminal and a long-stay car park with 1,015 spaces, situated two kilometres from the terminal, this is
connected via a shuttle service which runs every 7 minutes. T2 has separate buildings connected to T2A and T2C via a walkway and open air car parks located opposite the terminal.
All of the parking are permanently manned by security patrols and customer service personnel.
